Volunteer Policy
For Nonprofit Organization Mentoring Teenagers on Pathways into Adulthood
1. Purpose
This Volunteer Policy outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and procedures for individuals volunteering with the Wise Counsel Foundation, Incorporated nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to mentoring teenagers and guiding them toward successful pathways into adulthood. The goal is to ensure a safe, supportive, and effective environment for both our youth and our volunteers.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all volunteers who participate in all Wise Counsel Foundation activities, programs, or events organized by the WCF nonprofit, whether in-person or virtual.
3. Volunteer Recruitment and Selection
• Volunteers must complete an application form and participate in an interview process.• Background checks will be conducted for all volunteers working directly with minors.• Selection is based on relevant experience, commitment to the mission, and ability to work respectfully with teenagers from diverse backgrounds.
4. Orientation and Training
• All volunteers will receive an orientation covering the organization’s mission, values, policies, and procedures.• Training will be provided on mentoring techniques, safeguarding practices, communication skills, and cultural sensitivity.• Ongoing professional development opportunities will be available to enhance volunteer effectiveness.
5. Roles and Responsibilities
• Mentor teenagers by providing guidance, encouragement, and support in exploring various pathways into adulthood (e.g., college, careers, trades, community service).• Maintain professional boundaries and respect the confidentiality of mentees.• Report any concerns related to safety, wellbeing, or misconduct to the appropriate staff member.• Attend regular check-ins and feedback sessions with program coordinators.• Promote inclusivity, respect, and positive role modeling at all times.
6. Code of Conduct
• Volunteers must treat all participants, staff, and other volunteers with respect and dignity.• Discrimination, harassment, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.• Volunteers are expected to adhere to the organization’s safeguarding policies and procedures.• Substance abuse (including alcohol and drugs) is strictly prohibited during any volunteer activities.
7. Safeguarding and Child Protection
• Volunteers must comply with all safeguarding policies and report any concerns regarding the welfare of minors immediately.• Physical contact should be appropriate and only when necessary for the safety and wellbeing of the teenager.• All one-on-one interactions should take place in visible or public settings whenever possible.
8. Recognition and Support
• Volunteers will receive regular feedback and support from staff.• Outstanding contributions will be acknowledged through awards, certificates, or public recognition.• Volunteers are encouraged to share ideas for improving programs and organizational practices.
9. Termination of Volunteer Involvement
• The organization reserves the right to end a volunteer’s involvement at any time if policies are violated or if the volunteer’s conduct is inconsistent with the organization’s values.• Volunteers may discontinue their service at any time but are asked to provide advance notice when possible.
10. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains current and effective. Feedback from WCF volunteers and staff is welcomed and will inform future updates.

This volunteer policy describes our current volunteer policy but may change from time to time. We may further amend all or part of this volunteer policy in the same way that we make amendments to our terms of use and such amended versions will be posted on this page.
